Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
I know how to spin, but I'm not super advanced. Is that ok?
As long as you can spin a continuous stable yarn you should be fine. We ask that you know how to draft fiber, be comfortable spinning a singles yarn and be able to ply. The techniques may challenge you no matter what your spinning levels. It's frustrating and exciting all at once to learn new things. We have built in plenty of time to practice each of the techniques in depth. We also have TONS of options for these yarns and will work from basic skills to challenging even the most adventurous of spinners!
Do you need to be able to spin on a wheel or can I use a spindle?
The classes are for techniques for working with spinning wheels or spindles, bring whichever you are most comfortable using.
I don't know how to spin. Will you teach me how to spin?
This is not a class to learn to spin on a spinning wheel. You need to be comfortable with your wheel (or spindle) and able to draft and spin a continuous yarn. You don't have to be super advanced, just able to spin basic yarn. Check with your local yarn shop or fiber guild to learn more.
I only want to take some (or none) of the classes. Can I still come?
Absolutely! However, our price is for the entire retreat (excluding lodging). This allows students to take all, some or even none of the classes. If you'd like to have a weekend retreat surrounded by a small group of fibery creative people please join us. Price is the same whether you take all or none of the classes.
What’s all included in this retreat?
All classes (take some or all), fiber needed for classes plus other goodies, lunch both days, snacks and lots of instruction in small class casual environment. You can either stay at the hotel and make this a true weekend getaway (we have a discount rate set up) and then get free breakfast & happy hour hot food & cold drinks 5:30pm-7pm, or you can come just for the classes if you’re local and want to save some money.
I've never been to a spinning or fiber retreat before. What can I expect?
You can expect to be welcomed, make new fibery friends and be encouraged. I was terrified going to my first fiber retreat on my own, but that one and every other retreat I've attended have been wonderful! This is a small group setting with pretty fabulous people. The teachers are kind and encouraging and only slightly snarky, the students that have signed up so far are friendly, warm and creative. Don't hold yourself back from what could be a great adventure!
